93 Robert Parker
From a warm and sunny vintage, the 2015 Soave Classico Calvarino shows extra fruit density with creamy notes of apricot, citrus and peach. Those characteristic mineral notes from the areas's volcanic soils are really what set this wine apart. The Calvarino is aged in cement vats lined with glass tiles for 15 months. Some 55,000 bottles were released.

This light- to medium-bodied white is broad and creamy on the palate without feeling heavy, relying on vibrant acidity to keep the momentum for the flavors of green pear, preserved lemon, wet stone and spice. Zesty finish. Drink now through 2023. 525 cases imported. –AN
Producer
Pieropan
Situated in the center of the medieval village of Soave, Pieropan was founded in the early 1880s by the Pieropan family. Tucked away in the historic Palazzo Pullici square, several generations of successful wine-producers have made their mark on this Venetian estate. Keeping in the family, Leonildo Senior’s grandson, coincidently named Leonildo was responsible for the winery’s major jump in quality during the 1970s. During this time, Leonildo relocated the family’s vines to the hills of Soave, in Calvarino, Pigno, Becco, Boilo-La Rocca, and Tondo, as well as adopted several endangered local varietals, like Garganega. His innovative approach even led to the full transformation of his vinicultural and vinification practices. Leonildo was one of the first to introduce organic farming in the region, he also installed the best technologies money could buy in the winery. Retaining the most important traditions, such as indigenous yeasts, Pieropan stands as a flawless representation of heritage in the face of modernity.
