The 2010 Clos Figueres is a serious cuvee of old vine Carinena and Garnacha complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Mourvedre (Monastrell) fermented in open oak barrels where it aged for some 16 months. It shows good transparency of aromas, with ripe blackberries, morello cherries and raspberries coated by fine cinnamon, vanilla and a lactic hint. The palate is medium to full-bodied with sharp acidity, very good purity of flavors and a long aftertaste, quite fine and elegant. Drink 2014-2020. Clos Figueras is the Priorat winery belonging to Christopher Cannan, the well-known wine importer who created Europvin. He has the help of Alain Graillot from Crozes-Hermitage to produce his wines and has recently added a restaurant in Gratallops, also called Les Figueres.

Expressive flavors of cherry, berry, spice, vanilla and herb mingle in this tender red. Full on the palate, but gentle, with light tannins and just enough acidity for balance. Drink now through 2018. 300 cases made. –TM
