40 % Grand Vin. 94 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 5 % Merlot, 0.75 % Cabernet Franc, 0.25 % Petit Verdot. Sehr dunkles, tiefes Granat mit lila und violettem Rand. Grosses, erhabenes Cabernetbouquet, viel schwarze Beeren zeigend und ein Hauch Dörrbananen, Trüffel im Untergrund und schwarze Edelhölzer, bereits in der Nase eine Klasse für sich, Cabernet in nahezu perfekter Form. Im Gaumen setzt sich diese nasale Perfektion fort, feinste Tannine, königliche Adstringenz, alles ist nobel und von einer Eleganz, wie man es von einem jungen Cabernet Sauvignon selten in einem so frühen Stadium erwarten kann. Ein Masterpiece von einem Jahrgang bei dem solche grosse Weine eigentlich nicht zu erwarten waren. Heuer wurde nur 6 % Presswein verwendet. (Letztes Jahr 15 %)! 130'000 Fl. Produktion.

Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2008 Latour has a youthfully subdued nose revealing notes of red plums and mulberries with underlying suggestions of damp earth, iron ore, pencil lead and dried Provencal herbs. The palate is superbly structured with firm, tight-knit grainy tannins and crisp acid supporting the muscular fruit, finishing long and savory.<br/>

This is dense and muscular, but balanced, with the flesh to offset the sinew, as pure mulled black currant, melted fig and crushed plum fruit is caressed by substantial but fine-grained structure. The long, iron- and tobacco-filled finish has excellent focus and drive. This could rival LLC for longest-lived wine of the vintage. Best from 2013 through 2022. 9,500 cases made. — JM

Château Latour
Château Latour is in a unique class of its own, producing some of the most powerful, complex and irresistible wines in Bordeaux. For centuries, Latour has been the greatest First Growth in the Médoc, if not in the entire region, producing the world’s most remarkable reds year after year. Considered the oldest wine producing property in Pauillac, with a history dating back to the 14th century, owners have come and gone over the years leading to 1993, when François Pinault, a French billionaire industrialist bought up the château. Since then, while maintaining Latour’s pursuit for excellence, Pinault has made significant changes, including a complete renovation of the winery, vat room, winemaking facilities and storage areas. He has also built a new tasting room, and redesigned the architecture of the main building, Pinault’s strides for modernization continue to accrue. Today, Château Latour’s talented team, motivated by their quest for perfection in both the vineyard and cellar, craft three wines. Preferring to release their wines after they are bottled, Latour was the first Bordeaux château to withdraw from the En Primeur system, starting with the 2012 vintage. One of the three wines in production, Le Pauillac de Château Latour is a worthy third wine. While Les Forts de Latour is a very impressive second wine. Le Grand Vin is at the pinnacle of Latour’s production, as the Grand Vin, it is a regal, concentrated red that is harmoniously balanced by its sophisticated refinement.
