A dark and winey style, offering a mix of plum, black currant and black cherry notes, infused with black tea, fruitcake and anise accents. Solidly built, vibrant and energetic from start to finish, this carries copious fruit easily through the lengthy finish. Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Counoise. Best from 2020 through 2040.

Now that it's in the bottle, Beaucastel's 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape comes across as full-bodied and rich, but also a bit shut down and reticent on the nose. With air, black olives and asphalt give way to black cherries and briery spice notes, backed by velvety but substantial tannins and a long, richly textured finish. Given a few years in the cellar, I have no doubt this will drink well for the next 15-plus years.

Château de Beaucastel
Château de Beaucastel is a magical place. It is surrounded by hills planted with endless vineyards, hundred-year-old olive trees and truffle oaks. Here nature is blooming, liberated and at ease. Ancient vines with knotted roots are nurtured in the traditional gobelet style in the soil typical of the region, laden with large round pebbles. When the Mistral blows - the legendary wind from the Alps - it whistles down the Rhône Valley cooling the vines and revealing aromas of Garrigue. Today, the estate remains in the hands of Jacques Perrin’s sons, Jean-Pierre and François. A blend of the the Famille Perrin’s talents, the estate follows strict founding values, consisting of respect for the land and terroir through biodynamic agriculture techniques that accentuate their quest for truth, balance and elegance. Planted on ancestral soils, Château de Beaucastel cultivates 13 grape varieties well-known in Châteauneuf du Pape. Each vintage is a unique and exceptional combination of power, structure, sophistication and freshness.
