93 Vinous
Deep ruby. Smoky garrigue-like components to the dark berry and plum aromas and flavors. Ripe and juicy, but also refined and long, this is slightly bigger and riper but not that noticeably better than the 2017 Montessu. Both are remarkably good in their respective vintages. 2021- 2025.
90 Wine Spectator
A polished red, with creamy tannins defining the subtle weave of baked plum, black tea leaf and loamy earth flavors, with a touch of olive tapenade. Balanced, with a pretty waft of violet and spice notes on the finish. Carignano, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2025. 12,500 cases made, 800 cases imported. — AN

Agricola Punica
Agricola Punica was founded in 2002, as a joint venture between Italy’s most elite winemakers and consultants. The list of all-star players includes, oenologist Sebastiano Rosa, Sardinian winery Cantina di Santadi, Tenuta San Guido under the leadership of Marchese Nicoló Incisa della Rocchetta, Santadi’s President Antonello Pilloni, and the iconic Tuscan consulting enologist, Giacomo Tachis. Fascinated by the idyllic connection of Sardina’s terroir and the Carignano grape, this extraordinary team decided to build Agricola Punica in the southwestern region of the island, caleed Sulcis Meridionale. The 150-hectare estate is divided among two vineyard sites, Barrua and Narcao. Though the land sits within the DOC of Carignano del Sulcis walls, the wines are labeled under the IGT of Isola dei Nuraghi. Today, the winery produces two stand-out wines based on the Carignano variety, the Barrua and the Montessu.
