Uccelliera is the name of a historic estate southeast of Montalcino, located on the slope of the Castelnuovo dell’Abate hill. Andrea Cortonesi is a person who can be described as "salt of the earth": he has worked in the vineyards and all the countryside activities since he was a boy, to help his father. Thanks to his innate passion and the great wine personalities he met along the way, he refined his knowledge as a winemaker and entrepreneur, managing to purchase the estate in 1986, which included centuries-old olive groves, arable fields, and a small vineyard.
Over the years, additional parcels have been added so that the terroir of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. The vineyards are indeed located at various altitudes, from 150 to 350 meters above sea level, and exhibit different soils and microclimatic conditions. Sangiovese is the predominant variety used to produce Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Rosso di Montalcino DOC, and Costabate Sangiovese Toscana IGT, while a small portion of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon contributes to the blend of Rapace Toscana IGT. With Uccelliera, Andrea preserves and embodies the profound bond between territory, grape variety, and passion through his fruits: wine and extra virgin olive oil.
