Clos Haut-Peyraguey
One of the more discreet labels of Sauternes, Clos Haut-Peyraguey once formed the upper part of Lafaurie-Peyrauguey. It claimed independence in 1879 when the then owners, the Garbay family (who also owned Lagrange in Saint-Julien at that time), separated the two. Like many domaine names, Peyraguey comes from the word hill as it is located on the highest part of the Sauternes appellation in Bommes, which reaches elevations of 50 to 80 metres. The vineyards are well positioned with 4 of their 8 parcels touching those of d'Yquem. In 1914, the Garbay family purchased the estate and their descendants sold to Bernard Magrez, owner of Pape Clément, in October 2012. Today, it has a reputation for being one of the most refined Sauternes with floral notes further accented by gentle flavors of honey and dried fruits.
