Some very rich and ripe red and dark berries here make for an impressive, engaging nose that has charming violet undertones. The palate is velvety and supple, while super smooth tannins deliver a long and plush, plum-soaked finish. Great wine and already drinking well. Try from 2023

18/20 2024 – 2047

Château Malescot Saint Exupéry
A riper, fuller Margaux, Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry is a 3ème Grand Cru Classé property that has a history dating back to the 1600s. The estate owes its name to two preceding owners: Simon Malescot, an attorney general to the Bordeaux royalty who bought the château in 1987, and Count Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry, who owned the property from 1827 to 1853. In 1955 the Left Bank winery, however, was bought by the Zuger family, and has been led by Jean-Luc Zuger since 1994. Throughout the past sixty years, the family has made several large investments in the vineyards and winery that continue to accrue. Today, with ever-growing quality, the Malescot Saint-Exupéry’s coat of arms has never been truer: Semper Ad Altum, meaning Even Higher. The estate’s consulting vintner, the legendary Michel Rolland produces a single wine which is an unfiltered, barrique aged blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and smaller parts Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. As the flagship, Malescot St.-Exupéry develops beautifully with six or seven years of cellaring, making it a silky, elegant wine that few Margaux châteaux can match.
