Fleshy and inviting, with plum paste, blackberry coulis and black tea notes woven together and backed by a twinge of iron on the finish. Features some showy toast. —J.M.

Château Barde-Haut
Located on an elevated limestone plateau in the eastern portion of Saint-Émilion, Château Barde-Haut has been owned by Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard (family of Florence and Daniel Cathiard of Smith Haut Lafitte) since 2000. It is managed by Hélène Garcin Levesque who is also in charge of Clos de l'Église in Pomerol and Haut-Bergey and Branon in Pessac-Léognan. Its 16 hectares are planted to 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc which produce 3500 cases of Château Barde-Haut as well as a second wine, Le Vallon de Barde-Haut.
